Now.. not to be a hypocrite of anything, I as well am a fan of some sorts. IE I'm a supporter of Vincent, Hojo, Sephiroth, certain yaoi, etc... But I'm a SANE fan.

What do I mean by this? Simply, I know for a fact that these characters are indeed CHARACTERS and indeed.. NOT REAL. I can identify between reality and fantasy and never skew the lines between them.... On the other hand.. there are these things, which seemed to be the partial bane of my online existence... Uber Fangirls. Fangirls that seem to take their unnatural obsession for these characters WAY TOO FAR...

It's strange that the way they talk about these characters, as if they were real human beings. Defend them like they have feelings. Or hate them like it really even matters. What the HELL are you doing wasting vital energy on the hatred of a character, really?

Sure, there are characters I 'dislike', but I don't go onto other's sites and pages as see that particular character I dislike and write a novel on how much they supposedly suck.

Now... if they would give me a plausible reason on why these particular characters so do "suck".. then maybe I'd be intrigued to listen to their....... bitching....... but the absolute garbage that falls from their typing fingertips is just uncalled for..... Be smart people! God for once please!

Then there are the ones who like a character so much that they truly believe that that particular character solely now belongs to them and that no one else is 'allow to have them' .... these sort of fangirls who 'marry' their favorite characters.. write stories about those characters 'dating' 'loving' 'screwing' them is just..... It just boggles my mind really...

Am I just weird and don't understand this strange trait among fangirls these days? Am I just old-fashioned or something?

I understand the love someone can have for a character.. Hell I love Turk Vincent to death.. but I don't rant on and on about him 24/7 and make my friends sick of me and him by talking about him like he's god's gift to fandom. Heck, people come to my page, looking for Sephiroth artwork due to my name. And I have what... 3... maybe 4 pics of him? Where the rest are a collaboration of Vincent, Cid, Hojo, and Lucrecia...

I'm not trying to say I don’t like Sephiroth.. FAR from it. He was and always shall be my first FF love.. but I'm not going to flaunt it now, because I've opened up my tastes. I'm not partial to just one.. as you can probably see, I'm VERY open-minded... hell I LOVE Hojo! That greasy sleazy bastard. :XD:

With that said, I am also very fond of.. strange and obscure pairings... Why? Because they interest me and as STRANGE as most of them are.. I only am partial to the ones that would seem to work on a logical level...

Also another quirk of mine.. is seeing other fans getting so hot and bothered over seeing THEIR CHARACTER in strange situations.. IE Yaoi, or with a character 'THEY DONT LIKE' ..... to this I say... GET OVER IT!! This is FANDOM! You're going to see this sort of stuff no matter what fandom you're in. IT'S THERE. and it's not going away. So you're either going to have to get used to it or ignore it... Quit bitching about it and giving other people headaches.! If you're in any fandom and you're searching for things on that fandom.. you will find things like... ooohh.. Sephiroth in an orgy... Vincent attacked by chocobos.... Nanaki and Aeris... *shudder*

IT's JUST FANDOM. It's not worth blowing your stack over! Destroy your braincells on something far more worth while! Like.. I don’t know... go draw or write something... It's okay! You're not going to die because you saw Sephiroth making out with Vincent on a pile of dead Cloud clones! :D

I know this journal was posted around 6 years ago but I had to reply because its that good. ED led me here as well.

I pretty much laugh at these crazy fan girls who have an unnatural obsession for Sephiroth (including other characters as well). Even though I'm a fan of Sephiroth as well to a mild degree, I'd start to sound like a total idiot or downright nuts if I said anything between the lines of "I *heart* my husband Sephirosu/セフィロス". I end up face palming even more when I see someone depicting Sephiroth as a "fluffy" character who's seeking forgiveness. The last time I looked at a video of Sephiroth, he didn't even regret his actions one bit when he fought against Zack and Cloud at the Nibelheim mako reactor in the FFVII Crisis Core game. After all, he's what you'd call the "perfect monster" created by Hojo as a tool to find the Lifestream and serve as an invincible human military weapon with (what they thought were) Cetra DNA implanted into his body. Sephiroth agreed to the term "monster" and put it to use as he turned against everyone and the entire world.

Another important thing about this character and needs to be said: Sephiroth loves to mess with people's minds, remember? Cloud's mind pretty much shattered when Sephiroth revealed the photo (of Zack, Tifa and Sephiroth) from five years years ago before the events of FFVII . If Sephiroth can do that with Cloud, he'd might as well be doing the same with other people. In other words, Sephiroth can't be trusted. Amusingly, if any fan girl who sees him as the perfect boyfriend or husband, then they're putting themselves in a somewhat similar delusion/setting up an illusion with a "fake" Sephiroth who's too awfully kind. Sephiroth was intended to be cruel, cold and uncaring from the start but some female fans tend to ignore or dismiss that part of him entirely and/or try to justify his actions as if he did nothing wrong. Sure, he was a bit kinder at some point in Crisis Core before the Nibelheim incident arose but his cold, authoritative personality was still there at that time so he probably wouldn't be treating others on the same level as he did with Zack, Angeal, Genesis, and Professor Gast.

Sorry for the rambling, I kinda get caught up with these kinds of things but I'm going to stop here for now. ^^;

Yeah...I got here from that article on ED.........I'm sorry but I used to be one of those crazy fangirls you were describing in your rant...when I was SIX YEARS OLD AND HAD A THING FOR PETER PAN. Oh Lord, I know this is an old article, but even so...THIS just warms my heart.

 Damn another blast from the past. Yeah I saw the article years ago too. Slave and I were never associated with eachother; back then it was more like a 'common courtesy' to 'watch-back whoever watched you.'.

She was insane, but I have no idea what she's like now. Hopefully, like yourself, she just grew out of it.

Yeah, I found you from Encyclopedia Dramatica...but good rant anyway. I don't see as many obnoxious fangirls as people think there are (for some strange reason my fandoms don't get the obnoxious ones) but I still do not like the few I've seen. And it's especially good when people who don't like fangirls assume I'm like one of the crazy ones...Sure, I like Jafar a bit more than you're supposed to, but I don't go around pretending to be married to him (in spite of this username) or flaming anyone else who likes him. And I would just laugh at someone who did.

Old rant is oollldd.. But nice to see the grand Vizier of Complantopia drop by. Being in the FF7 fandom for 10 years really wore me out.. How I stayed a fan that long still boggles me, but I guess I always had hope that things would get better. But the fangirls only became worse, if not more rabid, especially with the introduction of uber-psychos like Mrs_Sephiroth and SephirothsSlave. For 5 years I've been slowly driven away, and now I'm done; I've got better things to focus my attention on.

I'd like to admit though, that despite my name, I was never a huge fan of Sephiroth, but 9 years ago when I grabbed this pen-name I wanted something that identified me as a FF7 fan. The name pretty much has stuck this whole time, but more recently I've taken to changing it out of distaste for being associated with such a deteriorated fandom.

It's cool seeing someone who's a fan of something a little more obscure. Jafar was one of my favorite Disney villians, next to Gaston. I always also liked Mozenrath. Man, nostalgia bomb there... But yeah I'm a bit of a Disney nut myself. There's a fandom you rarely have to worry about anyone 'ruining' for you.. It's just infinitely classic.
